How to create an exclusion group?

Follow the steps below to create an Exclusion Group and prevent test overlap across your campaigns.

  1. From your Personizely Dashboard, navigate to the Campaigns tab and open the campaign you want to assign to an Exclusion Group by clicking on it to enter the campaign settings.

  1. At the top of the campaign settings screen, click the Group button.

A dropdown will appear showing any existing groups your campaign can be added to, as well as the option to create a new one.

  1. To create a new Exclusion Group, click + Create new group.

  1. In the Create group window, enter a descriptive Name for your Exclusion Group (for example, "Homepage tests" or "Ad campaigns").

The campaign you were editing is automatically added to the group under the Campaigns section. To add more campaigns to this group, click + Add campaign to group and select from your existing campaigns.

Each campaign in the group will receive an equal share of traffic by default. For example, two campaigns will each receive 50%, three campaigns will each receive 33%, and so on. You can adjust these percentages manually if needed.

Note: It is not recommended to run more than 2-3 campaigns within a single Exclusion Group. With more campaigns, each one receives a smaller share of traffic, which means each test will need to run for a significantly longer period to reach statistical significance.

  1. Under Ended test behavior, choose what happens when a campaign in the group ends or is paused:

  • Exclude ended campaigns — If a visitor saw an ended or paused campaign, they will not be shown any other campaign in the group.
  • Include replacement campaign — If the campaign a visitor saw has ended, they will be shown another active campaign in the group instead.

Important: The traffic weights of inactive campaigns are automatically redistributed proportionally among the remaining active campaigns so that the total always adds up to 100%. Make sure all campaigns in the group are actively running to maintain your intended traffic distribution.

  1. Click Save to create the Exclusion Group. Personizely will now ensure that visitors are bucketed into only one campaign within the group at a time.

Congratulations, your Exclusion Group is now set up!
