How to create an A/B experiment

Follow the steps below to set up an A/B test campaign and experiment with different versions of your website content.



  1. From your Personizely Dashboard, navigate to the Campaigns tab and click the Create Campaign button at the top right:

  1. In the “Create new campaign” window, select A/B Test, name your campaign and define a hypothesis to clarify what you’re testing.
    Select whether to use an existing page or create a new one, then choose the page where the test will run.
    Click Create to continue.

  1. You will be redirected to the campaign settings page. Under Pages, you can update the page you selected or add more if needed.

  1. Under Variations, you’ll see an Original version (the control group) and a Variation 1. You can rename Variation 1 and click Create variation to add more.

  1. Under Target, choose whether the test should run for All visitors or define a Specific target based on visitor filters.

  1. Adjust Traffic allocation by setting what percentage of visitors will be exposed to this campaign

  1. In the Goals section, select the action(s) you want to track, like Purchase or Add to cart.
    You can assign multiple goals and mark one as the primary goal for reporting.

  1. Choose the Trigger for the campaign:


Immediate: The campaign runs as soon as the page loads.


Manual: The campaign is triggered via API or widget automation.

  1. To edit a variation, click Edit in builder on the right side of that variation.
    You can change text, images, buttons, styles, links, or even inject custom CSS and JS.

  1. Click on the element you want to edit. A small taskbar will appear above it, and the editing panel will slide in on the side.

The top taskbar lets you:


  • Select the element’s parent


  • Select a child element


  • Add an element after the selected one


  • Track clicks on the element


Use the editor panel on the right to customize the selected element. The following sections are available:


  • General – Restrict visibility or edit inner HTML


  • Typography – Change font size, color, height, and spacing


  • Background – Set background color or image


  • Border – Customize borders and corner radius


  • Spacing – Adjust padding and margins


  • Classes – Add or remove custom class names


  1. In the top-right corner of the builder, you’ll find advanced controls:

  • Find element – Search by class, ID, or section name if an element is hard to click manually


  • Refresh – Reload the page inside the editor


  • Edit code – Add custom CSS or JavaScript for this variation


Note: For the best no-flicker experience, make sure the Personizely script is loaded synchronously on your site.
