How to create a URL split test experiment

Follow the steps below to set up a URL Split Test campaign and experiment with different versions of standalone pages or full funnels.

  1. From your Personizely Dashboard, navigate to the Campaigns tab and click the Create Campaign button at the top right:

Create campaign

  1. In the “Create new campaign” window, select URL Split Test, name your campaign, and define a hypothesis to clarify what you’re testing.
Select whether to use an existing page or create a new one, then choose the base page where the test will run.
You must also enter the Redirect URL – this is the destination URL for the variation traffic.
    Click Create to continue.

Note: All variation URLs must be live and publicly accessible at the time the campaign is active.

Campaign Setup

  1. You will be redirected to the campaign settings page. Under Pages, you can update the page you selected or add more if needed.

Note: Only “single page” type pages can be added to a URL Split Test. If you include multiple pages, you’ll need to configure the variation URL for each one.

Pages

  1. Under Variations, you’ll see an Original version (the control group) and a Variation 1. You can rename Variation 1 and click Create variation to add more.

Variations

  1. To edit a variation, click the pencil icon next to it. This will open the redirect settings:

  • Redirect URL – The destination page where visitors assigned to this variation will be sent.

  • Transfer query parameters – Passes query variables from the original URL to the variation URL (e.g., ?utm_source=email).

  • Replace URL – Replaces the displayed URL in the browser with the original one after redirecting (useful for a seamless visitor experience).

  1. Adjust Traffic allocation by setting what percentage of visitors will be exposed to this campaign

Traffic Allocation

  1. In the Goals section, select the action(s) you want to track, like Purchase or Add to cart.
You can assign multiple goals and mark one as the primary goal for reporting.

Goals

Note: For the best no-flicker experience, make sure the Personizely script is loaded synchronously on your site.

Congratulations, your URL split test is now ready to go live!
