# How to create a Template experiment

Follow the steps below to create a Template Test and experiment with different Shopify templates on your store.


1. From your **Personizely Dashboard**, navigate to the **Campaigns** tab and click the **Create Campaign** button at the top right.

2. In the “Create new campaign” window, select **Experiment**, choose **Template** from the list of types, and click **Next** to continue.

3. On the **Define your variation** page, select what kind of template you want to test (for example, Homepage, Product, Collection, Page, or Blog).
Then, choose the **Original template** that will act as your control. You can use an **Existing template** or **Create a new one** to use as a variation.
If you choose to create a new template, you will be able to edit it later.

4. Add a descriptive **Campaign name** and define your **Hypothesis** to clarify what you are testing. Click **Create** to continue.

5. You will be redirected to the **Template Test setup** screen. Under **Variations**, you will see the **Original template** and the **Variation 1** that you created. You can add more variations by clicking **Create variation** and selecting or creating new templates from your Shopify store.

You can change the variation template by clicking **Template** on the right and selecting a different one from your available templates.
You can also **Edit** or **Preview** a variation from the same menu.
If you created a new template in the previous step, clicking **Edit** will redirect you to the Shopify Theme customization page where you can apply design changes. Once you are done, click **Save** and return to Personizely.

**Note:** You can now choose more than one **Original Template** if needed. This is useful for testing multiple original templates against a single variation.

6. Adjust **Traffic allocation** by setting what percentage of visitors will be included in this campaign.

7. In the **Goals** section, select the actions you want to track, such as **Purchase** or **Add to cart**. You can assign multiple goals and mark one as the primary goal for reporting.

8. Once your setup is complete, click **Start** to launch the Template Test. Visitors will see different template versions based on your traffic distribution.
When a variation performs better and becomes the winner, an information banner will appear in the campaign dashboard. Click **Deploy** to apply the winning template as the default for all relevant pages.

**Additional notes:**

* The **Personizely script** must be installed synchronously to ensure instant redirect behavior.
* This campaign type is currently available for **Shopify** users.
